Shaskia Cuaspa (b. 1993, Bogotá, Colombia) is a self-taught expressionist and figurative artist based in Southern California. Known for portraits that blend boldness with tenderness, her work explores the delicate interplay between strength and vulnerability, intensity and grace. Using mediums such as acrylics, oil pastels, and paper. Shaskia creates emotionally charged pieces that invite deep reflection and connection.
As an immigrant, Shaskia often questioned cultural norms and the limitations placed on identity and experience. It wasn’t until later in life, particularly during the transformative season of motherhood that art became her language of healing and discovery. Through painting, she uncovered the beauty of expression and the power of visual storytelling to forge connection, both with others and with the self.
Drawing inspiration from Latin American culture, personal history, and a profound relationship with God, Shaskia’s art addresses themes of hope, acceptance, and spiritual identity. Her use of bold tones, colored noses, thoughtful postures, and hand positioning infuses each portrait with narrative and meaning. These elements work together to reflect the divine in every subject, moving beyond mere likeness to reveal the human soul beneath.
Guided by a mission to revive creativity and remind people of their inherent value and purpose, Shaskia’s work encourages viewers to turn their gaze inward and upward. Each piece becomes a sacred invitation to see the Creator’s imprint in ourselves and one another.
